OUR INTENDING PARENTS Welcome to Verofy Christian Education Centre. We look forward to seeing you and your child. This prospectus has been written as your guide to our school, and highlights the ways we can work together to furnish your child with qualitative and functional education. We hope you find it helpful. If you would like to know more about the school, please do not hesitate to request, or if you like to arrange a visit, please inform us. Academic attainment and development of leadership skills and capacity are the hallmarks of our purpose but are not exclusive. Consequently, our mission is dedicated to and reflects a blend academic excellence and a robust functional education. Education is as dynamic as society. This explains why education has taken a detour from the traditional and certificate-oriented position to application of knowledge for self-assertion and for the advancement of society. This is the comprehensive aim of the 9-3-4 system of education designed by the Federal Government in conjunction with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) geared towards inculcating in the citizenry the right type of values, skills and attitude for the survival of the individual and the Nigerian society. Taking into cognizance, the overall philosophy and goals of education in Nigeria, Verofy Christian Education Centre is established to provide affordable, qualitative and functional school education that prepares today’s child not only to function well in and dominate today’s fast-paced world but also to adapt to the dynamics of the future. FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL (12-17YEARS) YEAR 7–YEAR 12 A candidate is expected to have completed six years of primary education, and attained the age of eleven by September 1 in the year for which admission is sought, to qualify for admission into the secondary school. An Entrance Examination and Oral Interview will be conducted for all the candidates while a provisional offer of admission will be made to successful candidates only. A child’s place is confirmed upon payment of the acceptance fee as well as the minimum deposit within the deadline specified in the admission letter. OUR UNIQUE ADVANTAGE In achieving our purpose, Verofy Christian Education Centre has a crop of dedicated and committed academic and non-academic staff who derive fulfillment from guiding and nurturing pupils/students to explore and appreciate the creations, achievements, traditions and ideals of the past which not only illuminate the present but also offer purpose in the present and light for the future. More so, to ensure that we help each pupil/student realize his full academic potentials, we set and work towards achievable target recognizing the variations in the intelligence quotient of pupils/students. Our minimum target in external examinations is 95%. Verofy Christian Education Centre is a world-class early childhood, primary and secondary educational institution with determination of raising generation of children equipped with the wherewithal to tackle global challenges and to contribute immensely to the development of their immediate communities in today’s dynamic world. Verofy Christian Education Centre is not only the right choice but also the best choice. We in Verofy Nursery and Primary School with open arms welcome every distinguished parent who understands the need to get a qualitative and functional education for his/her child. We are driven by our immutable belief in the importance of providing your children a broad and balanced curriculum, supplemented by a range of co-curricular activities designed to help them discover and harness their talents and potentials. FOR EARLY YEAR (3 MONTHS – 5 YEARS) Prospective parents are advised to come with the child for whom admission is being sought. A meeting between parents/guardians, child and head of pre-school is a pre-requisite for children desiring admission into the pre-school. A child’s place is confirmed upon payment of Tuition and Registration Fees within the deadline stipulated on the admission letter. FOR JUNIOR BASIC SCHOOL (6 – 12 YEARS) YEAR 1 – 6 Admission into the Year 1 – 6 commences with an enquiry by a parent / guardian. In the event of a vacancy, a parent/guardian completes an Application Form which sets the stage for an entrance examination. A child is placed in class based on his or her performance in the entrance test. Where the performance level is marginally satisfactory, he or she could be placed in class on probation for period not exceeding one academic year. WHAT WE STAND FOR PHILOSOPHY Verofy Christian Education Centre is a Christian school but still admits pupils/students from other religious backgrounds. We provide a conducive environment for learning that sponsors self-actualization in all spheres of life. Apart from academic excellence and virtues, our students/pupils are highly innovative and displays original approaches to academic and social lives. Thus, we strive relentlessly to produce well-adjusted, educated leaders that can hoist our flag of distinction and keep it flying at full mast at any of life’s battle stations. Our values foster empathy, confidence, tolerance, patriotism, self-discipline and reliability. Our children learn to respect themselves and care for others. They are encouraged to work hard and to appreciate the work of their fellows. We expect them to be courteous and well-mannered at all times, both to members of staff and other children. We raise to develop love and respect for God and country. THE FOUNDING VISION Verofy Christian Education Centre was established in September, 2016 by Pastor Marcel and Evangelist Veronica .I. Mgbezute. ADMISSION POLICIES As a policy, we do not publish candidates’ scores. This is by no means a waiver of our right to do so. The second part of the entry procedure is your acceptance of the place, together with a non-refundable deposit for form. Then follows an admission pack with all the appurtenances of school life – list of books, uniform lists, and so on. Uniforms are available at the school shop. Parents are advised to book well ahead of resumption. It is compulsory for all the new pupils/students to pay hundred percent of the school fees on or before resumption. Admission is given into various classes sought for in the Nursery/Primary while it is given to JSS One, Two and SSS One and Two in the secondary. Note that the minimum age requirement for admission into JSS One is eleven years. OUR VISION To be counted among the few best producers of private education in this part of the globe –West Africa. THE MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATION Verofy Christian Education Centre is overseen by two core bodies, the Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors. The former oversees the realization of the original mission and vision of the school whilst the latter plays an advisory role to the School Administration and helps ensure that the aims and objectives of the Founders of the school are achieved. The Board of Governors boasts of a unique and diverse array of business and educationally experienced individuals. Regular meetings forge a synergy that ensures the ongoing monitoring of progress towards securing achievement of the School Development Plan, longer term planning, as well as general governance issues. The management/administration of the secondary section is led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)/ Managing Director (the Proprietress) assisted by the Administrator, Principal, Vice principals and Heads of Department while the Nursery and Primary School arm is led by the Proprietress and supported by the Administrator, Head teacher, Assistant Head teacher and the various class teachers. A BALANCED AND ROBUST CURRICULUM FOR FUTURE LEADERS Verofy Christian Education Centre embraces the Nigeria Universal Basic Education Policy which stipulates nine years of basic continuous education for all children. THE EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTRE (3 months – 5 years) This was developed to meet the holistic development of all children within the age bracket. The children are encouraged to be independent in their learning so that their unique skills and knowledge can be harvested. The children are encouraged to explore and utilize the academic environment with special focus on the learning space and learning aids. THE JUNIOR BASIC SCHOOLYear1 (6 – 11 Years) Verofy Nursery and Primary School adheres to the Nigerian Basic Education curriculum as it relates to the elementary school level i.e. Year 1 - Year 6. However, the school enriches this curriculum with emphasis on literacy, numeracy, personal and social skills, knowledge and understanding of the world. SENIOR BASIC SCHOOL Year 7 - 9 (12 – 15 Years) This was planned to provide a strong foundation for success for all our students through their senior school studies. During their three years in the Senior Basic School students study the fourteen subjects contained in the National Curriculum: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Basic Technology, Agricultural Science, Computer Science, French, Nigerian Languages, Physical and Health Education, Religion and National Values, Business Studies/Home Economics, Cultural and Creative Arts and Civic Education. In Year 9, our students are entered in the National Examinations, the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), for the award of Junior School Certificate. THE SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL Year 10 - 12 (15 – 17 years) The curriculum is centered on the Nigerian requirements of the West African Education Council (WAEC) and the National Examination Council (NECO). Furthermore, our curriculum offerings ensure our students gain access to the best available global educational opportunities to guarantee success in their tertiary studies and to help them become global players who make significant contributions to their immediate communities and the world at large. ASSESSMENT This is an integral part of the teaching process. We ensure students are continuously assessed, to give both ongoing feedback, formative assessment and to provide a score/grade, summative assessment. At the end of each week students have a mini-assessment on the subject-matter covered during the week. Students are then given feedback and teachers re-teach concepts, as required. Students also have assignments to complete. There are three major assessments each term; first and second continuous assessment and end of term exams. All assessments are recorded and provide a framework for continuous assessment. This allows the school to provide parents with balanced evidence of each child’s progress. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES A wide range of diverse activities are available to students on a daily basis (including the weekends) which; inspire, develop additional skills, or, simply allow students to enjoy themselves and have fun. Activities range from Sports, Arts, Music, Service, Leadership and Cultural, Student select activities according to interest and many clubs form the basis of competitive teams who take part in competitions both nationally and internationally. Teachers enthusiastically offer their time to these activities which they see as complementary and enriching to the overall curriculum. Contribution to the installation of power cables and transformers. 2. Road rehabilitation. 3. Free medical tests/services. AWARDS AND RECOGNITION The school recognizes the efforts of pupils, students, teachers, parents and the host community for their contributions towards the growth and development of the school. INFORMATION REQUEST Application form, school handbook or a complete information package can be requested online upon completion of the online request form. The requested information will be sent by post/courier service or via digital means as the case may be. FEES PAYMENT Fees are paid into the school account. Receipts are collected in the school within the hours of 8am – 3pm at the Bursar’s Office. Parents are advised to keep copies of their receipts for record purposes. MEDICALS We have a functional sick bay manned by a qualified nurse for medical care. In cases of emergency or hospitalization, arrangements are in place with a reputable private hospital where students receive treatment and parents are notified immediately. SECURITY The external gates of the school are manned by trained security personnel with the gates locked and operated from inside the school. Except when identified visitors are coming in or going out, a visitor is required to sign in at the gate, and report to reception within the main building. This in no way detracts from the open-door policy of the school. At the Nursery and Primary School, children are collected from their classrooms at the end of each day and they will only be released to parents or official collectors who show the permission card, who will then sign the collection book. Children will only be taken off-site with prior permission of parents. Movement of all personnel and vehicle entering or leaving the compound is strictly screened. ADMISSION APPLICATIONS, REQUIREMENTS AND POLICIES ADMISSION REQUIREMENT Parents wishing their child to sit for Common Entrance into our school must obtain an Application Form from one of our dedicated centers, or directly from the school’s Accounts. These can be done in four simple steps. 1. Make Payments for the stipulated amount into our bank. 2. Fill and submit the forms before the entrance examination dates. The entrance examination dates are on the flyers. 3. Pupils/students are given entrance test and interviews on the following: Numeracy, Literacy, Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Mathematics, English Language, Current Affairs and General Knowledge 4. Within a week candidates that are successful will be notified by e-mail, text messages or phone calls. This will be followed by a formal letter from the Principal or Head teacher. Successful pupils/ students are required to come with the following items: four recent colored passport-sized photographs, completed and certified medical report from a government hospital or reputable private hospital and a photocopy of previous class report card and transfer certificate. PASTORAL CARE AND COUNSELING Verofy Christian Education Centre has a holistic approach towards the spiritual and moral well-being of her pupils/students. A timely morning devotional prayers during assembly and a one-hour devotion every Friday to build up the children and a daily morning devotion for teachers are a part of our calendar of events. As stand-in parents, we are fully committed to building meaningful relationships with our students as a group and individually by creating a family environment. We teach them to be responsible and also lay foundational family values such as discipline, courtesy, diligence, integrity, etc. Teachers observe a one-day day fast and all-night prayers at the beginning of every term. Children are loved, well cared for and properly supported prayerfully. PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION (PTA) The school has a vibrant PTA which maintains a cordial relationship with the School Management. The school has a functional PTA which holds its meeting once in a term. Observations and Issues of Concern are raised at the meetings. A PTA Whatsapp group also exists. AIMS: To give parents, governors of the school board and teachers, an informal opportunity to discuss issues that affect the education and welfare of the children. To support the school in its corporate objective to provide affordable education of the best available standard. To raise funds for special projects as required. Every person whose child or ward is a pupil/student of Verofy Christian Education Centre automatically becomes a member of the PTA upon enrolment of such child or ward in the school register.
